IPL8 – Mumbai Indians sign Ben Hilfenhaus for the rest of IPL: Depleted Mumbai Indians have roped in Australian pacer Ben Hilfenhaus and New Zealand batsman Colin Munro into their squad as a replacements for their injured players Aaron Finch and Corey Anderson for the rest of the Indian Premier League.

The IPL Technical committee consisting of former captains Sourav Ganguly, Ravi Shastri, BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur, Sourav Dasgupta and Subir Ganguly approved Colin Munro and Ben Hilfenhaus as injury replacements in the Mumbai Indians squad.

Mumbai Opener Aaron Finch was ruled out of the IPL due to a hamstring injury he sustained while taking a single against the Rajasthan Royals in Ahmedabad while Corey Anderson fractured his finger in the nets. Mumbai also let their pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was called by Cricket Australia to be fit for the Ashes.

Hilfenhaus had earlier played for Chennai Super Kings in the past and has 22 wickets in 17 IPL games. He was one of MS Dhoni’s go to bowlers when he was a part of CSK. Colin Munro, on the other hand will be taking part in the IPL for the first time. Munro has been in fine form in New Zealand domestic circuit in the recent past and more recently he scored 23 sixes in an innings, the most by any batsman in First Class cricket.

Among these two, Hilfenhaus is likely to make the cut in the playing XI as Mumbai are struggling to get their combinations right. If he plays, he might replace New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan in the playing XI.
