Irani Trophy 2019: Ajinkya Rahane set to lead Rest of India against Vidarbha
The Irani Trophy will be played from February 12-16 in Nagpur.
Vidarbha laid their hands on the coveted Ranji Trophy for the second consecutive time on Thursday. They defeated Saurashtra by 78 runs in the final and Aditya Sarwate was the hero for them picking six wickets and fittingly took the winning catch as well. Vidarbha will now be facing the Rest of India side in the Irani Trophy which will be played on February 12. Ajinkya Rahane has been appointed the captain of ROI side as the BCCI announced the 15-man squad for the game.
There is a tradition in the Indian domestic cricket that the Ranji Trophy winners play against the team comprised of the best cricketers in the country for the Irani Trophy. Vidarbha are the title-holders here as well and would be looking to defend the title like they did in the Ranji Trophy.
Vihari and Agarwal also part of the squad
Along with Rahane, the likes of Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari who are part of the current India Test side have also been included in the side. Saurashtra star Dharmendrasinh Jadeja has also made the cut while the young leggie Rahul Chahar is also part of the squad.
Ishan Kishan is the wicket-keeper in the line-up while Ankit Rajpoot will be leading the pace attack. Anmolpreet Singh is another opener in the team while Shreyas Iyer has also been included who will most probably bat at number three. The other fast bowlers in the squad are Ronit More, Sandeep Warrier, Tanveer Ul-Haq. Snell Patel who scored the only century in the final has also made the cut and it will be interesting to see if he plays.
Rest of India squad: Ajinkya Rahane (Captain), Mayank Agarwal, Anmolpreet Singh, Hanuma Vihari, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Krishnappa Gowtham, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Rahul Chahar, Ankit Rajpoot, Tanveer Ul-Haq, Ronit More, Sandeep Warrier, Rinku Singh, Snell Patel
