Ireland was in no competition against the dominant Indian line-up as they lost both the games by big margins. After losing the first T20I by 76 runs, Irish side was expected to give a good fight, but that wasn’t the case as the visiting side went on to register a huge 143-run victory in the second T20I to clinch the two-match series 2-0.
Gary Wilson, the Ireland skipper won the toss and elected to bowl first. Indian opener KL Rahul looked in a good touch but his partner Virat Kohli lost his wicket for just 9 runs off Peter Chase. Suresh Raina came in at No. 3 and the duo added valuable partnership on the board. Brilliant half-centuries from Rahul, Raina and an impressive cameo of 9-ball 32-run knock by Hardik Pandya took India to a dominating total.
With 214 runs to level the series, Ireland openers occupied the crease. Pacers Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul stamped their authority by picking the top order’s wickets in a quick span. Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav shared six wickets between them in their 6.3 overs to clean the Irish middle-order and tail. The hosts were bundled for just 70 runs, giving India a 143-run win. None of the Irish batsmen managed to go past 15-run mark in the final T20I.
Porterfield steals the limelight
The more interesting incident took place involving William Porterfield in the second innings. Ireland brought in former skipper William Porterfield in the place of Stuart Poynter. The Irish veteran was expected to trouble Indian bowlers but he was cleaned up by the comeback man Umesh Yadav in the third over. Porterfield was heard on stump mic shouting ‘f**k you’ and almost hit the stumps with his bat. Stump-mics are playing a vital role in analysing players behaviour on the field.
