Ireland finalize the venue for their first ever Test match
Cricket Ireland had earlier announced that the hosts would play Pakistan in their inaugural Test match.
Earlier in June this year, the Ireland and Afghanistan cricket were awarded Test status. They became full members of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and that took the total of Test playing nations to 12 teams. Cricket Ireland had earlier announced that the hosts would play Pakistan in their inaugural Test match.
After having announced the dates i.e. from 11th May to the 15th of May, they have finally chosen Malahide near Dublin as the venue. It is going to be a historic game marking the entry of Irish cricket into the traditional format.
Delighted that Malahide has agreed to host this historic game
The chief executive of Cricket Ireland, Warren Deutrom was glad to announce the same. He talked about the club’s history of hosting some exciting games in the past. He counted upon them to make the inaugural Test memorable.
“We are delighted that Malahide has agreed to host this historic game against Pakistan, Even in its short history of hosting our matches, the club has already given us some wonderful memories, and we trust that May 11 and its ensuing days will provide many more,” Warren was quoted as saying by TOI.
Looking forward to welcoming both Pakistan and Irish teams to The Village
Malahide chairman expressed his joy over the fact that they got the opportunity to host the Test match. He looked forward to welcoming both the international teams to the Village.
“Malahide Cricket Club is delighted to host the Inaugural Test Match in Ireland. We are looking forward to welcoming both teams to The Village,” he said.
Tickets to go on sale from tomorrow
CI took to Twitter as they confirmed the venue and also announced the dates for ticket sale.
They tweeted, “Confirmation this morning that @MalahideCC will host Ireland’s inaugural test match next year, from May 11th – 15th.
Tickets go on sale tomorrow from 10am
