Ireland are scheduled to play Afghanistan in a full-fledged international series in India, which gets underway on Monday, February 18 when the visiting team arrives and will continue until March 22 when Ireland leave India. Cricket Ireland has recently put forth the full itinerary of their campaign. All the matches will be played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun.
The tour starts with a three-match T20I series, which starts on Saturday, February 23. The teams will then lock horns in the five ODIs, the first of which will be played on Saturday, March 2. After the conclusion of the limited-overs fixtures, the teams would play a Test match. It will also be their respective second Tests after they faced Pakistan and India respectively in May and June.
As far as the venue is concerned, three international T20Is between Afghanistan and Bangladesh have already been hosted. The Afghans, captained by the enigmatic Asghar Afghan, whitewashed the Tigers. Both teams have earlier played against each other in India in March 2016.
During that time, Ireland played three T20Is, five ODIs and one encounter in the Intercontinental Cup at Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground. At that point time, both teams didn’t have Test status and it was only later in the year that Afghanistan and Ireland became full-member nations.
