Ireland to host West Indies, Bangladesh for tri-series before World Cup
All the matches in the tri-series will take place in Dublin, at Castle Avenue, Clontarf and The Village, Malahide.
Ireland are set to host the Windies and Bangladesh for a tri-series this summer. The series will kickstart on May 5 before the top two teams take on each other in the final on May 17. According to the format of the series, each team will play against each other twice in a round-robin phase. The two teams with most points will then advance to the series-decider in Malahide. The series will be Bangladesh and Windies’ last international assignment before they leave for England for the World Cup.
Unsurprisingly, both Bangladesh and the Windies will use the series as a preparation for the mega-event. With the conditions in Ireland not very different from that in England, the players will have a chance of getting accustomed to the conditions. The Windies will start their World Cup campaign on May 31, against Pakistan, while Bangladesh open against South Africa, on June 2. Before the World Cup, both the teams will play a couple of warm-up games. While Bangladesh will play against Pakistan and India, the Windies will take on South Africa and New Zealand.
On the other hand, Ireland will then welcome Zimbabwe at home for three ODIs and as many T20Is, starting on July 1. The last match of the tour – the third T20I – will be played on July 14. All the matches in the tri-series will take place in Dublin, at Castle Avenue, Clontarf and The Village, Malahide.
West Indies players to miss IPL?
Given that the series will start when the IPL will enter its business, there were speculations that the players might miss the playoffs and the final. From the Windies, the likes of Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Shimron Hetmeyer, Nicholas Pooran, and Oshane Thomas are in the IPL. However, according to reports, the players will leave for the series only if their teams fail to qualify for the playoffs.
From Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan is the only player in the IPL. There are still no reports on his availability in the league once the series gets underway.
