One of India’s most promising all-rounders in the past, Irfan Pathan had a poor run of luck after he went unsold in the recently concluded IPL auction in Bengaluru. The versatile left-hander made his debut way back in 2003-04 in the Australia series as a pace bowler who could bat. Brimming with talent, he was also compared to the legendary Kapil Dev then, but things soon went downhill ever since he was asked to open for India by then-coach Greg Chappell.

The situations have been worse for the out of favor Indian, who was dropped from his domestic team, Baroda, in the Ranji Trophy last year. Irfan and Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) have been at loggerheads for quite some time now and the left-hander has been in and out of the side due to this.

Pathan made his debut for Baroda as a 16-year-old in the 2000/01 season and has played 113 matches. The Indian international, who was a part of the Baroda side for the last 17 years, was named the captain and the mentor of the team at the start of the season. He started the season by scoring a defiant 80 and after just two matches, he was dropped from the Ranji Trophy side.

Adding to this, he was not even picked in Baroda’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. Thus, with not much game-time under his belt, Pathan failed to garner the interest of the franchises in the auction.

However, the 33-year-old’s latest tweet reveals that all is not lost. In his first tweet that he posted after being snubbed by IPL franchises, Pathan wrote, The worth of a person is according to his courage n his confidence #strong.”

Here is the tweet:

It seems Pathan is trying his level best to stay upbeat about the entire episode and maintain a positive attitude. His die-hard fans also took to the micro-blogging site to offer comfort to the all-rounder.
