Is Chris Gayle, in his saffron garb and tilak, campaigning for BJP in Lok Sabha polls?
The social media is rife with Gayle's images supporting the BJP.
Chris Gayle, the famous Caribbean cricketer, is known for hitting some of the biggest sixes in international cricket and for being the ‘Universe Boss’. The Jamaican cricketer is widely known as the Bradman of T20 cricket, given that he is the only player with over 10,000 runs in the format and over 20 centuries to his name.
Gayle, who is currently playing in the IPL 2019 for the Kings XI Punjab, holds the record for the highest individual score in the league and in all T20 cricket. He hit 175* in IPL 2013 for his then franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India, leading his team to the record score of 263/5.
Gayle has been one of the most attention-grabbing cricketers in the world and while his international career has started to wind up, his career in T20 leagues all around the world continues to give him fame and he is still a big crowd puller wherever he plays.
Chris Gayle campaigning for BJP?
His popularity in India knows no bounds. Chris Gayle’s ability to make sure the crowd has a good time even if he fails with the bat during the match and ensures that the Indian crowd continues to support him no matter what team he plays for.
This has led to a picture being shared on social media of Chris Gayle wearing a saffron Kurta and tilak on his forehead with a caption in Hindi, which translates to, “Chris Gayle, better known as Krishna Goyal, star campaigner for BJP, has reached India to campaign for the party in the upcoming 2019 Lok Sabha polls.”
Truth of the news
For those getting excited about Gayle and BJP, the news is a fake one. Something similar news was also shared in April 2018, saying that Gayle had joined BJP before the Karnataka Assemble Polls. Many photoshopped images were spread using Gayle as the prime subject and spreading fake news of him joining BJP. The image of Gayle in saffron kurta and tilak on the forehead is of him shooting for an ad for ethnic apparel brand Manyavar in April 2018.
