Is Rohit Sharma ruled out of IPL 2020?

BCCI announced India’s squad across all three formats for the upcoming Australia tour on Monday evening. Among many surprising decisions from the selection panel, Rohit Sharma’s absence from all the teams left the fans and the experts shocked. BCCI also released a statement that the medical team is having a close watch on Rohit’s progress and there is a possibility that he might travel to Australia later.

However, this non-selection has raised a serious question on his availability for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Rohit Sharma hasn’t played the last couple of matches in the T20 extravaganza for his team with Kieron Pollard leading the side. Also, it remains to be seen if he features in the remainder of the season at all now.

Rohit sustained a hamstring injury during the game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) which went down to the double Super Over last week. After staying unbeaten in the first Super Over, he didn’t come out to bat for the second which left many surprised and also skipped the post-match presentation.

Even when he missed the game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MI released an official statement mentioning that BCCI and their medical team is monitoring him closely. However, it was reported that the injury isn’t serious.

Rohit Sharma’s unavailability huge blow for MI

Mumbai Indians are yet to confirm anything about Rohit Sharma getting ruled out of IPL 2020. But with him not being picked for Australia tour clearly suggests that the injury is serious and he might not play any further part in the cash-rich league. Moreover, he will not travel with the Indian contingent soon after the IPL as well and might have to undergo proper fitness test to have any chance of playing a role on Australia tour.

If at all Rohit Sharma is ruled out of IPL, which seems clear as of now, it will be a huge blow for the four-time champions. The skipper has been brilliant in his tactics throughout the season and most importantly, his experience at the top of the order will be missed. He has so far scored 260 runs in nine matches at an average of 28.88 and the strike-rate of 129.35.

Also, with the current regulations in place in Australia and considering the 14-day quarantine period, Rohit is unlikely to play any part in the limited overs series for India.
