Is this the reason why BCCI didn't officially announce Suresh Raina's retirement yet?

Thus far, the BCCI hasn't put up anything on their website or social media for Raina.

Just a while after MS Dhoni announced his international retirement, Suresh Raina decided to follow him on this journey. A few minutes after Dhoni’s announcement came up on Instagram, Suresh Raina came up with his retirement post. In his post, Raina wrote that it was nothing but lovely to play with MS Dhoni. He further added that with his heart full of pride, he chooses to join the CSK skipper on this journey.

“It was nothing but lovely playing with you, @mahi7781. With my heart full of pride, I choose to join you in this journey. Thank you India. Jai Hind! 🇮🇳,” wrote Raina in his Instagram post. Along with the post, he shared a picture with some of his CSK mates including MS Dhoni.

Suresh Raina didn’t follow the protocol?

However, had you observed closely, the BCCI has only been tweeting about MS Dhoni since yesterday. The official social media handle of the put up several messages for the former Indian skipper. Even President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah put up their messages for Dhoni.

But there has been no mention of Suresh Raina whatsoever. Quite a few fans expressed surprise in regards to this. Some even opined that the board was treating the left-hander in a bad taste. However, there is a possibility that Suresh Raina might not have followed the protocol of informing BCCI prior to his retirement.

MS Dhoni seems to have communicated the board and informed them before making his decision public as the BCCI published a press release within two hours of his post. But even 20 hours after Raina’s announcement post, there is no PR over the Southpaw from the BCCI, let alone postings on social media handles. BCCI usually follows protocols before publishing PRs and hence, we can expect an official announcement soon.

Raina, who is just 33 years old, announcing his retirement took many by surprise. Many were expecting him to make a comeback to the Indian team. Since he made his debut in 2005, Suresh Raina played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20Is. With over 8,000 international runs, he has been a great servant for Indian cricket. He is also one of those few cricketers who has got a century across all the three formats. Raina last played for India in 2018.
