Jharkhand and India A batsman Ishan Kishan has revealed he passed the BCCI’s new fitness test. The revelation from the left-handed batsman has come in the wake of media reports stating that he had failed the “2-km run” fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru this week. Kishan, however, has rubbished the reports with his latest post on Instagram.

Earlier this week, reports stated that as many as six players failed the test in Bengaluru. According to a report in The Times of India, Kishan was one of those six players. The other players were Nitish Rana, Rahul Tewatia, Siddarth Kaul, Jaydev Unadkat as well as Sanju Samson who had previously failed the yo-yo test once.

Kishan, however, has proved the report false. Although it is also likely that he cleared the test in second attempt. The wicketkeeper-batsman, on Friday, uploaded a series of stories on his Instagram account where he gave updates on his training at the NCA. In one of his stories, he confirmed that he had passed the “2-km run” test. It was his very first story and he could be seen standing alongside trainer Vivek Ramakrishna in the photo.

In another story, Kishan posed with fast bowlers Jaydev Unadkat and Siddarth Kaul, congratulating them for passing the BCCI’s new fitness Test. Meanwhile, it is still not known whether the posts from Kishan were posted like his routine posts or were done for the purpose of refuting the recent media reports.

The new “2-km run” fitness test:

While the yo-yo test is already in place, the BCCI have now introduced the “2-km run” fitness test for the players. The players need to pass these mandatory tests in order to become eligible for selection. In the past, several big names like Samson and Mohammed Shami were dropped from the squad after failing to clear the yo-yo test.

In the newly-introduced test, the players need to run the required distance in a stipulated amount of time. For batsmen, wicketkeepers and spinners, the benchmark is 8 minutes and 30 seconds. On the other hand, the fast bowlers are required to complete the 2-km distance in 8 minutes and 15 seconds.
