Ishan Kishan named as the captain of the third-string Board President's XI squad against South Africa A

20-year old Ishan Kishan has been announced as the skipper of the third string Board President’s XI squad for the practice match against South Africa A. A 14-member squad has been named for the only 3-day practice game which will be starting from July 30 in Belgaum, Karnataka. Along with Kishan many young Indian players who have been performing well in the domestic circuits have been included in the squad. The practice game comes as a big opportunity for the boys to be in contention for the place in the India A squad for the 2 Test matches against South Africa A to be played after the practice game.

The batting line-up looks very strong with the likes of Abhimanyu Easwaran (Bengal), Dhruv Shorey (Delhi), Anmolpreet Singh (Punjab), Jalaj Saxena (Kerala) and Siddhesh Lad (Mumbai) and the skipper Kishan who is the captain of the team. Anmolpreet has been selected due to his sensational performance in his maiden first-class season, where he scored 753 runs  in just seven innings at a scintillating average of 125.50. Whereas the likes of Shorey, Easwaran and Siddhesh have been performing consistently in the recent domestic competitions.

All-rounder Jalaj Saxena, who had a terrific domestic season both with the bat and ball and was also awarded the Lala Amarnath  Award for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy season 2016-17. He will also be looking to prove his worth and get a place in the ‘A’ team. In the bowling department also, many young fast bowlers and spinners have been named in the squad.

The likes of Avesh Khan, Ishan Porel, Mihir Hirwani, Shivam Mavi and many others have been included in the squad, considering their recent performances in the domestic circuit. Both Ishan and Mavi were also part of the India Under 19 team that won the Under 19 World Cup in New Zealand. Therefore, this practice match also given them much like the others a chance to perform well and earn a spot in the ‘A’ team for the 2 Test matches.
