Ishan Porel played the last two games with a foot injury his coach has revealed
The youngster is yet to fully recover from the foot injury he sustained recently.
India’s U19 team continued their dominance in the finals as they lifted the trophy after beating the Australians convincingly in the finals on Saturday. It was a complete effort from the bowlers as well as the batsmen as they never looked in trouble in the finals against the Aussies.
Medium pacer Ishan Porel played a massive role in India’s success in the knockout rounds of the games. In India’s first game of the tournament, Bengal-born Porel had to leave the ground after an injury. He had bowled just 4.1 overs in the game. His coach Bibhash Das while speaking to media revealed that the bowler was not completely fit but still went on to play and eventually managed to help the side win the title.
“He’s not fully recovered, and bowled with pain in his foot. Such a kind of injury would take a minimum three weeks to recover. It’s not actually an ankle injury. He has a tear in his out step of the left leg. He bowled with a heavily taped leg with the insole in his shoe, so that he does not aggravate his injury. It’s only because of the advanced treatment in New Zealand that he could play in the three knockout matches,” Das told the media.
India had posted a decent total batting first against arch-rivals Pakistan but It was Ishan Porel who destroyed the opponents batting unit as he picked up 4-for in the match. Pakistanis were bundled out for 69 runs losing the game by a record margin of 203-runs.
Speaking about his injury, Das told that the bowler was not fully recovered and bowled his spells with pain in his foot. His foot was heavily taped and he had put an insole in his shoes to avoid the further damage. As per Das, the advanced technologies in New Zealand allowed the pacer to play the important matches.
The pacer was not picked in the IPL auction while his two of the partners in the form of Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti were selected, the pacer didn’t allow the disappointment harm his game. In the finals against Australia, Porel had provided the Indians the early breakthrough which didn’t allow them to run away with the game and eventually India won the title, a record 4th time.
Future plan is to be fit and aim the 2019 World Cup: Porel’s coach Das
Speaking about future plans for the pacer, his coach said that they will not target the 2019 world cup and work keeping it in mind. The biggest challenge as per Das will be to keep the pacer fully fit.
“The biggest challenge for him, and I is to keep him physically fit so that he could bowl with full strength. We will do our best. Porel should target the World Cup 2019 now. He was consistently clocking 138kph. His forte has been speed and bounce. He’s not a swing bowler per se, but he has a natural ability to generate off the seam movement and more bounce,” said coach Bibhash Das.
