Jharkhand’s Ishank Jaggi has been a revelation of sorts in the domestic circuit. All set to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 10, the young batsman is excited and nervous. The last time Ishank Jaggi played an IPL match was in 2012 for the Deccan Chargers. But KKR repose faith in him and selected him for this year’s edition.
Speaking to Indian Express, the youngster revealed how MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir helped him resurrect his career.
“Presence of legend player like Dhoni always inspires and helps you in the moral boost. To be very specific he is a very calculated player and his advice is always of great help. He is someone who plans things on the field and is always spontaneous”, Jaggi said on Jharkhand captain MS Dhoni.
Jharkhand had a great outing in this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, where it reached the quarterfinals before Bengal got better of them.
“It is ‘Mahi bhai’ who has inspired many youngsters from Ranchi and Jharkhand. He has been a role model for many players from that area. Today whatever Jharkhand has achieved it is all because of his contribution and involvement.”
Jaggi has, in many interviews previously too, emphasised on Dhoni’s humility. He once again reiterated saying Dhoni’s humility is something which sets him apart.
“If you spend time with him, you will realise that he is so down to earth, humble and easy to approach. And that is why he is a legend”
He also credited his comeback to KKR captain Gautam Gambhir, who recognised Ishank’s talent in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
“It is Gautam Bhaiya, who had seen me playing during the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, and showed confidence in my game. I credit my comeback in the IPL to him.”
