Ishant Sharma has had a superlative outing in the first of the five-match Test series between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham. In the first innings, he bowled with venom and finished with figures of 17-1-46-1. Furthermore, he has simply been phenomenal in the second innings. The home team took a lead of 13 runs after the end of both team’s first innings.
In the pre-lunch session of the third day’s play, Sharma picked up Dawid Malan’s wicket. The left-handed batsman hasn’t had a memorable match with the willow by any stretch of the imagination. In the first innings, Mohammed Shami accounted for his wicket when the speedster trapped him plumb in front. Ishant picked him on the second instance with an absolute peach of a delivery.
Ishant’s venom too good for Malan
The seamer bowled from around the wicket and angled the ball into the batsman. The ball seamed away after pitching and subsequently, it opened the batter. He tried to block the venomous delivery, however, the leather found the outside edge of the left-hander’s willow. Ajinkya Rahane took a sharp catch in the slip cordon to give his team the fourth wicket of the innings.
In the first innings, Rahane dropped a catch in the slips off Ishant Sharma’s bowling and the lanky fast bowler would be relieved by Rahane’s effort the second time around. Malan looked good during his stint in the middle with a knock of 20 runs from 64 deliveries. He was ready to buckle down and stave off the Indian attack, but couldn’t carry on, much to the agony of the English team.
Meanwhile, when Malan was making his way back to the pavilion, Ishant gave him a fiery send-off. Ishant is known more for treading an aggressive outlook on the cricket pitch and showed some of it after pinning the left-hander. Nevertheless, the lanky pacer needs to be careful before involving in an altercation with an opposition player.
