Ishant Sharma is one of the best fast bowlers India has produced in the last decade or so. Ishant, who hails from Delhi, made his First-Class debut at the age of 18 and then made his India debut at the age of 19 against Bangladesh in 2007.

Sharma since then has played 90 Tests, 80 ODIs and 14 T20Is for India, becoming the leader of the Indian Test bowling attack which consists of bowlers like Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Jasprit Bumrah. Sharma has 267 wickets in Tests and over 115 in ODIs, though he hasn’t played an ODI since June of 2016.

Ishant Sharma shares that Bumrah sledges him during matches

In the web-show Breakfast with Champions, hosted by Gaurav Kapur, Ishant Sharma, revealed some hilarious stories about his time in the Indian team. Ever since been called the next big thing in Indian cricket by Steve Waugh after his exploits on the Australian tour of 2007-08, and his amazing spell to Ricky Ponting, Ishant Sharma had revealed that before the fame and fortune, he had to make his debut in Test cricket in shoes borrowed from Zaheer Khan, as his kit bag was misplaced during transit.

Now in another revelation, Ishant Sharma shared the behaviour of his fellow fast bowlers. “We all fast bowler eat together. Myself, Bhuvneshwar, Shami, Umesh. Bumrah is a bit of a loner, he doesn’t let anyone come into his room. He actually chides me when I am bowling slow in a match. He says, common warm up your engine,” Ishant was quoted as saying on the show.

He shared an incident between him and Bumrah in the second Test between India and Australia during the 2018-19 tour down under. The match was played at Perth and was won by Australia, who levelled the four-match series 1-1, as India had won the first Test at Brisbane. Ishant shared that Bumrah kept making him look at his bowling speeds every ball and then made fun of him for bowling slow. Ishant then back answered him, saying that when he was Bumrah’s age, Ishant bowled over 150.

“Recently in the second Test in Australia, Bumrah used to show me my speeds and me despite huffing and puffing, I am getting speeds of 130 km/h. Bumrah says after two overs, Engine is not warmed up yet. Now when Bumrah bowls, he is also clocking 140 only. I then said, when I was your age, I used to go over 150,” Ishant added.
