'It is a sign of respect' - Eoin Morgan responds to his old tweets mocking Indian fans

England pacer Ollie Robinson’s old racist and sexist tweets went viral when he made his international debut earlier this month against New Zealand. Despite doing well both with bat and ball, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspended him pending investigation into the matter. Soon, the old tweets of other cricketers including England skipper Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler mocking Indian fans for their English surfaced.

It was also reported that the ECB was investigating some of the tweets of other England cricketers even as Morgan and Buttler were criticised a lot. The England captain has opened up now for the first time on the matter and has cleared that in no way he was mocking anyone with his tweets.

Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan both have been accused of making fun of the fans for their broken English using ‘Sir’ word repeatedly. However, Morgan isn’t too much fussed about it and has said that he was respecting the person by addressing him as ‘Sir.’

“I don’t really reflect on it a lot. I find it, if I call somebody sir on social media, or anywhere around the world, it’s a sign of admiration and respect,” Morgan said ahead of the first T20I between England and Sri Lanka.

Nothing I can control, says Morgan

Eoin Morgan further asserted that he cannot control the things if they are wrongly understood and for the same reason, he hasn’t thought much about the matter. “If that’s taken out of context there’s nothing I can control or do about it, so I haven’t actually looked into it,” the left-hander added.

Moreover, the England captain also confirmed that even the limited-overs side will have a ‘moment of unity’ before the start of play much like the Test team did during the Tests against the Kiwis. “We will be very much aligned with the Test match guys and what they did in their series against New Zealand,” Morgan said.
