'It is never too late'- Chris Gayle backs Daren Sammy after his racism allegations on ex-SRH players
Darren Sammy played for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 and 2014 season.
Darren Sammy, the former West Indies captain, shook the cricket world when he claimed that he had to face racist jibes during his IPL stint in 2013 and 2014 with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He revealed that his SRH teammates used to call him ‘Kalu’. Sammy accepted he didn’t know the meaning of that word explicitly. But, now he is aware that it is used for the black people.
He has also demanded an apology from his ex-teammates before he starts taking the names. The 36-year-old raised the voice against racism after George Floyd’s death in the USA. However, after his allegations against the SRH players, many questioned why it took him so long to speak about it.
“I will be texting you guys, when you repeatedly called me that word over and over again to the point when I was even said that it was my name, did you mean it in a degrading way to me? I’ve always been one to build up the team – not bring it down.
“All those who called me that, you guys know yourself. Some of you have my numbers, my Instagram and Twitter. Let’s have a conversation. If it was in the way Minhaj meant, I am disappointed. I’m angry and I deserve an apology. Talk to me, reach out to me,” Sammy said in an Instagram video on Tuesday.
