'It is really amazing to have both players in the dressing room'- Venkatesh Iyer opens up about Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma's leadership style
Venkatesh Iyer has been retained by KKR for IPL 2022 for INR eight crore.
Venkatesh Iyer would once again be hoping to come out all guns blazing in the upcoming IPL 2022 that gets underway on March 26. He played an integral role last season in helping the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) make the finals by going after the opposition bowlers right from the word ‘go’. The tall all-rounder finished the 2021 edition with 370 runs from 10 matches and also chipped in with three wickets.
Lately, Iyer has explained the unique leadership styles of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Giving further clarification on the same, the southpaw said that it is amazing to have both the batting icons in the dressing room as they not only guide the youngsters but also prepare strategies together that eventually help in India’s win.

“I remember (Dada) Sourav Ganguly quoting once ‘to be a leader you don’t necessarily have to be holding a position’. A leader is someone who irrespective of his position is able to create an environment where everyone is at parity. Virat Bhai has got huge huge experience”, said Venkatesh Iyer while speaking to the Times of India.
“He is a leader. He knows how to carry the team. We have seen on the TV screens how these two – Rohit and Virat – how they guide youngsters, how they discuss and plan things and take India to wins. It is really amazing to have both players in the dressing room”, he added.
While Kohli will be a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rohit Sharma will be leading a new-look Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022. Venkatesh Iyer, on the other hand, was one of KKR’s mandatory retentions months before the two-day mega auction along with the Caribbean all-rounder Andre Russell, and mystery spinners, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, respectively. The Madhya Pradesh cricketer has been offered INR eight crore.
The two-time winners will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 26.
