'It is refreshing to know that he is a human' - Jos Buttler on Virat Kohli's lean patch
'Kohli has been one of the best players, if not the best player in ODI cricket in the world,' said Buttler.
Team England won the second ODI match against India at Lords and leveled the series 1-1 with one more game to play. England pacer Reece Topley was excellent with the ball as he scalped a total of six wickets as the Men in Blue failed to chase down 247 in their allotted 50 overs.
Several Indian batters including former India skipper Virat Kohli did not manage to convert their starts to a big score as England bowlers were on song. Kohli was eventually dismissed by pacer David Willey after scoring 16 runs off 25 balls, hitting three boundaries. Meanwhile, England skipper Jos Buttler has come out in support of Kohli saying that he is a fantastic batter and has won many matches for his country.
Virat Kohli’s record speaks for himself: Jos Buttler
“I suppose in a little way it’s quite refreshing for the rest of us that he (Kohli) is human and he can have a couple of low scores as well, but look he has been one of the best players, if not the best player in ODI cricket in the world. So, he’s been a fantastic player for so many years, and all batters, it just proves, go through runs of the form where they don’t perform as well as they can do sometimes,” Buttler said during a press conference.
“But certainly, as an opposition captain, you know a player of that class is always due, so you’re hoping that it doesn’t come against us. Yeah, incredibly surprised, as I said, his record speaks for himself. The matches he’s won for India and yeah, why would you question that,” he added.
To note, Kohli has not been named in the ODI and T20I squad which is slated to visit West Indies later this month. Meanwhile, Team India will take on England in the third and final ODI match of the series to be played in Manchester on July 17 (Sunday). Kohli will be hoping to score some crucial runs for his team and help his team to clinch the series.
