The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) are yet to open their account in the points table with five losses in as many matches. The Men in Blue suffered their fifth consecutive defeat after going down against the Punjab Kings by a margin of 12 runs, during a group stage clash in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Pune on April 13 (Wednesday).

Even though MI have lost all their previous matches, batter Suryakumar Yadav has been excellent for them. The right-handed batter has played three matches in IPL 2022 so far and has scored two fifties. Yadav was excellent against Punjab Kings as well, scoring an impressive 43 off 30 balls. However, the 31-year old could not manage to win the game for his side.

The five-time champions will now take on the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants in their next group stage match on April 16 (Saturday). Ahead of the game against LSG, Suryakumar Yadav opened up about his batting, position and his consistency in the tournament.

I love doing what I am doing: Suryakumar Yadav

Speaking in a press conference the Mumbai cricketer said, “I love doing what I am doing and it is showing in the matches. There is always self-motivation when playing for MI, I don’t need to do anything extra.” The batter also emphasized on the fact that it is the management’s call to decide his batting position and he is ready to bat anywhere for the team.

“It is the management’s call to decide my position. I am flexible to bat at no.3, 4, 5 or 6. It’s been a long time for me playing, it’s situational for me now. It matters what situation I am batting in, not the position. I worked very hard to get this consistency. I try to simulate match situations during practice, so when I play it becomes easier,” he added.

Talking about his numbers in IPL, Suryakumar Yadav has played 118 matches and has amassed a total of 2504 runs at a decent average of 30.17. The right-handed batter has stroked 15 half-centuries in toughest franchise league of the world.
