Though Delhi Capitals had a great season in IPL 2021, they failed to seal a berth in the final clash as they lost Qualifier two to KKR in the most enthralling manner. Earlier in Qualifier one, their chances were dented by MS Dhoni and his me,n who stormed their way to the ninth IPL final. In the same context, former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels that DC can have another leader in 2022 who will replace Rishabh Pant.
Pant has done his captaincy duties quite well and was even lauded by many experts for the same. He was handed over the reins of the team when regular skipper Shreyas Iyer suffered a shoulder injury and got ruled out of the Indian leg of IPL.
Gambhir was questioned if ace spinner Ravi Ashwin should be retained by DC or not in the IPL 2022. Gambhir added that it might sound bizarre but had it been his call, he would make Ashwin the skipper of the Delhi side for next season. It can be called as little surprising as Pant performed too well as a captain.
“Look, I’m one of his biggest fans and he’s one of the best spinners in the world. If you look at the overall line-up, it may be a bizarre call maybe and only I can think about this. But if I was there, I would like to make him the captain of Delhi Capitals next year,” said Gambhir in interaction on ESPNcricinfo.
We battled hard through the season but we gave our 100%: Rishabh Pant
Talking about DC’s last game against KKR, Pant came up with a fine statement for his team. He added that though their campaign ended in heartbreak, he is proud of his team made of exceptional warriors. They all gave their 100 percent, he concluded.
“It ended in heartbreak last night, but I could not be more proud of leading this team of exceptional warriors. We battled hard through the season, and while we may have fallen short on some days, we always gave 100%” tweeted Rishabh Pant earlier.
