Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has said that Virat Kohli’s half-century against Gujarat Titans was a much-needed confidence booster for the star batter as well as his team Royal Challengers Bangalore. It may be noted that Kohli struggled to cross even the double-digit mark in his previous three matches before the game against GT.
The right-handed batter even bagged two consecutive golden ducks and scored just nine runs against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). However, Gavaskar opined that Kohli was middling the ball well in his knock against GT and that is good news for the Red Army.
It was a confidence-building innings, RCB would be very happy: Sunil Gavaskar
“It was a knock that he needed, it was a knock that RCB wanted as well. Once you get going and get a fifty, it augurs well for the remaining matches as well. Your main man is hitting the ball cleanly, the feet are moving into position quite nicely. It’s a confidence-building innings. As far as the RCB is concerned, they will be very, very happy,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.
The right-handed batter scored 58 runs off 53 balls and played some masterful strokes. However, he fell soon after completing his fifty. Kohli along with Rajat Patidar stitched an excellent run partnership and ensured that RCB crossed the 170-run mark. However, Kohli’s fifty did not prove good enough for his team as batters David Miller and Rahul Tewatia played some vital knocks for the new entrants and chased the target with three balls to spare.
RCB are currently placed fifth in the points table with five wins in ten matches and they will be up against the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their next group stage encounter of IPL 2022. The match will be played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium, Pune on May 4 (Wednesday).
