The accolades continue to pour in for India after their historic triumph in Australia. The visiting Indian side was hit by a plethora of injuries in the Test series, but they fought like warriors and beat Australia 2-1 to retain the Border Gavaskar trophy.

The icing on the cake of the series was the triumph in the fourth Test at The Gabba. Not only did Australia experience their first defeat in Tests in Brisbane since 1988, but India chased down a humungous target of 328 runs for victory to send a strong message to the world that they are a team with immense self-belief.

Now batting great and New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has heaped praise on the Indian side. Williamson admitted that playing against Australia in Australia is indeed a challenge. He also said that India’s triumph against the Aussies was ‘remarkable’ as they had lost so many players due to injury during the course of the series.

“Anytime you play Australia it’s incredibly tough and to play in their backyard is an added challenge. For India to go there and perform the way they did, in particular with so many injuries and players out. It was truly a remarkable victory,” said Williamson in a chat with Sports Today.

India would have been absolutely thrilled: Kane Williamson

Williamson was also highly impressed with India’s bowling attack, and the way they performed in spite of not having a lot of experience. The batting stalwart concluded by stating that the Indian side would have been thrilled and would have got a lot of buzz due to the fans that turned out to support them in the stands.

“You throw in the Test Championship context that’s added but I think just the challenge they faced and the way they stood up, I think their bowling unit collectively had 7 or 8 Tests between them going into the last game and at the Gabba as well. No doubt, India would have been absolutely thrilled, the supporters watching that match I am sure the team got a huge buzz out of that as well,” concluded Williamson.

As far as New Zealand are concerned, they have already booked their place in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) that will be played at Lord’s in June 2021. India and England will battle it out in a four-match Test series starting on February 5th, and the outcome of the series between Virat Kohli’s men and Joe Root’s men will decide who faces the Black Caps in the summit clash.
