‘It was a very emotional moment’ – Sachin Tendulkar recalls the moment when Virat Kohli gave him his father’s threads
Tendulkar also added that he kept those threads with him for a while and returned them back to Kohli.
Former Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar opened up on an incident that took place after his 200th and last Test match. After the match was over, Tendulkar was in the dressing room, when Virat Kohli came to him and gave him his father’s threads.
Tendulkar said that after his 200th Test, he had returned back to the dressing room and could not control his emotions. He had also told himself that he will never ever walk out as an Indian player again.
“I still remember I had just returned to the dressing room and I couldn’t control my tears. Till then, I knew I was going to retire, but when that (last) ball was done I said to myself, That’s it. Never ever in your life you will walk out as an international player for India,” said Tendulkar in a chat with Graham Bensinger.
This gesture from Virat Kohli will always stay with me: Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar also opened up on the moment when Virat Kohli came to him and gave him the sacred threads that his father had given to him. The 48-year-old cricketing colossus added that he kept those threads with him for a while and returned them back to Kohli as it was Kohli’s property. Adding that it was an emotional moment, Tendulkar concluded by stating that this gesture from Kohli will stay with him forever.
“So I was sitting in one corner, alone with a towel on my head and I was really emotional. And at that time, Virat had come to me and gave me the sacred thread that his father had given him. I kept that for a while and returned that to him and told that it is your property, and I gave it back to him. That was an emotional moment and something which will always be in my memory forever,” concluded Tendulkar.
Tendulkar played his final Test match for the Indian side against the West Indies in November 2013. You can see the video below.
