West Indies chased down the target of 168 on the final day and sealed the first Test match by one wicket.
West Indies kicked started their second cycle of the World Test Championship in style by securing a thrilling win over Pakistan in the first Test. The match that was of fluctuating fortunes across the four days came to a dramatic end on the final day as the hosts clinched victory by one wicket. The pair of Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales sailed the Windies to the finish line. The Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also took it to Twitter to leave his thought on the match.
This enthralling triumph of the West Indies fetched a lot of attention with all the action it unfolded on the final day. The cricket on-lookers were left in awe of the beauty of Test cricket. Ashwin congratulated the West Indies for the amazing win and also termed the match a ‘wonderful’ one. “Well done @windiescricket. Bad luck to Pakistan!! It was a wonderful test match #WIvPAK” the Tweet read.
Ashwin’s followers replied to his Tweet in great numbers expressing similar sentiments as that of him. A few users also commented that they wish to see something like this happen in the ongoing England-India Test match as well. The fans also praised the efforts of Shaheen Afridi who picked up a total of eight wickets in the match.
West Indies seal an exciting win over Pakistan in the first Test match
Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales came together at 151-9 wherein Pakistan was almost on the verge of a victory after Mohammad Rizwan grabbed a stunner of a catch to send Jomel Warrican back to the hut. The duo however did not give up just yet as Seales stayed firm for some time and let Roach complete the job for the hosts.
The match would go on to be a special one for Jayden Seales as earlier he became the youngest West Indies bowler to secure a Test five-wicket haul. When Windies needed six runs to win, Roach edged the ball off Hasan but that, unfortunately, couldn’t be caught by Rizwan as it went underneath the glove. Thus, West Indies chased down the target of 168 on the final day and sealed the first Test match.
