It was an embarrassing defeat for the England team and they have got a reality check in India: Shoaib Akhtar
One of the main reasons behind England losing the Test series was their inability to play against India’s quality spin-attack.
Team England succumbed to an embarrassing defeat against India in the last Test of the four-match series as they lost by an innings and 25 runs at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium thereby losing the series by 1-3. England, led by Joe Root, had started the Test series on a stunning note by winning the first Test in Chennai by a massive 227 runs.
However, they failed to live up to the expectations in the rest of the series and were outplayed by the Indian side. The hosts registered victory in the second Test by a whopping 317 runs followed by winning the pink-ball game by 10 wickets. With this victory, India qualifies for the final of the World Test Championship and will lock horns against New Zealand in England in June 2021.
One of the main reasons behind England losing the Test series was their inability to play against India’s quality spin-attack. Throughout the series, the visitors were troubled by India’s two frontline spinners namely Ravi Ashwin and Axar Patel. The defeat against India invited a lot of criticism for the English players as many former cricketers and cricket pundits slammed the visitors for their poor show.
With utmost ease, India has beaten England in the series: Shoaib Akhtar
Pakistan’s veteran pacer Shoaib Akhtar also joined the bandwagon as he lambasted the England team for not putting up a great fight against the Men in Blue. “All in all, it was an embarrassing defeat for the England team, and they have got a reality check in India. But they need to now learn the art of playing spin in the sub-continent well. Not sure, how are they going to lift themselves up from this humiliating defeat and motivate themselves to play better,” Shoaib Akhtar said on his Youtube channel.
“While many might talk about the wickets in the series, but look how India scored 365. They also played on the same wickets, where the England batsmen struggled. If Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar can score runs, why can’t the English? With utmost ease, India has beaten England in the series, and sealed a spot in the final of the World Test Championship final,” Akhtar added.
