Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Shane Watson has opened up about the picture of him and Rishabh Pant that went viral as a meme after the match against the Rajasthan Royals, saying that the situation was very chaotic at that point in time.

The Capitals faced a close defeat against Rajasthan Royals (RR) after the latter posted a target of 223. The match ended dramatically after a controversial no-ball decision by the umpires. Skipper Pant and the DC management did not agree with the on-field umpires and Pant even gestured his players to come back.

Bowling coach Pravin Amre went to the field and was seen in an argument with the umpires. As a result of the entire event, Pant, Amre and Shardul Thakur were fined. Meanwhile, a picture went viral where Watson was seen speaking to Pant, making him understand the seriousness of the situation and the trouble that the team could get under as the skipper continued looking down. Throwing light on the same, Watson admitted that things got out of hand for a few minutes.

We have to digest and get on with it: Shane Watson

“Yeah, I’ve seen that meme of me talking to Rishabh with my hand out. It got a little bit of coverage! It was chaotic for those couple of minutes. It was pretty hard. But in the end, it is what it is. There are times when either side isn’t always happy with some decisions. So, you got to get on with it,” Watson said in The Grade Cricketer podcast.

“But you look back at all those couple of minutes and saw the difference in all the parts that happened around. And Ricky Ponting not being there as well, didn’t help direct the ship. In a way, it was a perfect storm where things got out of hand. No one is proud of what happened out there. We have to digest and get on with it,” he added.

Delhi Capitals will face Kolkata Knight Riders in their next encounter, the 41st match of the IPL 2022, which is scheduled tonight at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
