Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020 is currently going on and the tournament has reached the business end with playoffs taking place at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka. A strange incident caught the limelight in the eliminator match between Dhaka and Barishal. It was Mushfiqur Rahim, the Dhaka skipper, who was involved in the middle of the whole controversy.
Batting first, Dhaka posted a total of 150/8 in 20 overs on a batting wicket. Keeping the pressure of playoffs in mind, the total seemed a respectable one. Captain Rahim’s 43-run knock and Yasir Ali’s half-century were crucial in the team reaching that total. For Barishal, Mehidy Hasan and Kamrul Islam took two wickets each.
Coming to the chase, Barishal never looked in the right frame of mind as they lost wickets in regular intervals. Tamim Iqbal, the opener, was expected to step up in the big encounter but he too lost his wicket at a crucial stage for just 22 runs. Afif Hossain, the middle-order batter, was the only player to show intent while chasing the total.
Mushfiqur Rahim loses his cool; apologizes later
Afif was looking to take the game away from Dhaka, that’s the moment when the batsman gave a high catch off Shafiqul Islam’s bowling. Mushfiqur Rahim was stationed there to take the catch but fielder Nasum Ahmed tried to intervene, which made things ugly on the field. However, Rahim took the catch cleanly. Later, the Dhaka skipper lost his cool and almost tried to hit Nasum. In the end, Dhaka managed to win the game and qualified for the next stage.

After Dhaka won the game by 9 runs, Rahim got to know about the mistake he committed and apologized to Nasum Ahmed. He even posted a picture with his teammate on Instagram with a long message. He wrote, “Assalamualaikum to all, First of all officially I would like to apologize to all my fans and spectators regarding the incident that happened yesterday during the match.
“I have already apologized after the game to my fellow team mate Nasum. Secondly I seek forgiveness from Almighty. I always remember I am a human being above all and the gesture that I have shown was not acceptable at all. In shaa Allah in near future I promise it won’t be repeated on the ground or outside the ground….JazakAllah khair.”
