The England cricket team has been hit by a big blow ahead of their white-ball series against Pakistan. A total of seven members which includes three cricketers and four management members have been tested positive for Covid-19 as announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Speaking on this unfortunate happening, the former England captain and commentator Nasser Hussain has stated that this would be a big testing time for the ECB.

Nasser lavished praises on the ECB for the way they have handled the Covid-bubble for the last 15 months or so amidst the difficult and challenging Covid times. He added that they have done a commendable job of keeping an eye on the bubble and managing it. But now with the virus entering the England camp, he asserted that this would create chaos at the ECB.

Nasser Hussain opens up on problems ahead of ECB

Nasser opened up that cricket has been going on around the world in bubbles and considering the mental health of the players it had been eased slightly. But now with the players been tested positive, Nasser said that the ECB will have to select a completely different squad of 16 players and then the backroom staff as well.

“They will have to pull a bulk of players from the County Championship games going on and the County would have to replace their players, get them tested to enter the bubble. It will be absolute chaos at the ECB.” he said in a video of Sky Sports.

Covid out-break in the camp caused a big challenge for the ECB to put up another team on board. After the players and staff from the team tested positive the ECB has now announced a completely new squad for the Pakistan series. Ben Stokes has been appointed as the captain of the England side with nine uncapped players also making it into the list of 18 strong men for the series.

However, Chris Silverwood who was supposed to take some time away from the white ball series is again back as the head coach of the England side.
