'It will happen one day' - Sachin Tendulkar to India Women after their dream of maiden title win gets squashed in final
The Indian Women's team has suffered similar setbacks in the past three ICC events where they have now twice lost in the finals.
Sport is an exhilarating, attractive beast but it can be really cruel at times, which is perhaps why it bears the closest resemblance to life. Just like life, sport makes you experience unforgettable highs and equally heart-wrenching lows, and no one knows it better than the Women in Blue, who- after having such a brilliant run in the tournament- saw their dreams of claiming that elusive holy grail at the hands of the ruthless winning juggernaut masquerading as the Australian women team in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Coming into the marquee encounter, the Women in Blue were riding on a three-match winning streak against the Aussies in ICC events, but, come the big day, the Australia Women flexed their muscles with disdain to hand India an 85-run mauling to clinch their fifth T20 World Cup triumph.
Post the chastening defeat, wishes continue to pour in for the dejected Women in Blue. Joining the bandwagon is someone who knows a thing-or-two about enduring heartbreaks during his career, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin Tendulkar urges Team India to keep working towards the goal
Tendulkar took to Twitter to congratulate the world champions while at the same time urged the Women in Blue to keep working hard towards the dream, as one day, it will eventually materialize, provided they don’t lose hope.
“Congratulations to Australia for winning the @T20WorldCup. It was a tough day for #TeamIndia. Our team is young and will grow into a solid unit. You have inspired many across the globe. We are proud of you. Keep working hard and never lose hope. It will happen one day. #INDvsAUS
No one knows it better than the Master Blaster as to how it feels when you end-up in a ‘so-close-yet-so-far’ situation. Tendulkar, who made his debut back in November 1989, had to endure five World Cup heartbreaks before he finally managed to claim his first title on that historic night of April 02, 2011.
The Indian Women’s team has suffered similar setbacks in the past three ICC events where they have now twice lost in the finals (in the 2017 50-over World Cup vs England and today) and once in semi-finals (also against England in the 2018 T20 World Cup). But they have a living example in the form of Tendulkar, who waited for as long as 22 years to finally realize his dream, and taking inspiration from the ‘God’ himself, could well turn out to be the clincher for them in the future.
