It’s some time since India last saw a pair of brothers represent them in international cricket. The Pathan brothers – Yusuf and Irfan – were the last pair to don the Blue together at the highest level. Team India could see another pair of siblings representing it soon as the elder of the cricketing brothers – Krunal – got his big break in the Indian T20I squads.

Krunal, elder brother of ace Indian all-rounder Hardik, was picked in the T20I squads both for the three-match series at home against Windies and also the three-game series in Australia in November. The 27-year-old left-handed all-rounder has played just one first-class game so far besides 43 List A games and 62 T20s.

He has scored 1,249 runs and picked 47 wickets in List A career so far while in the T20s, he has scored 967 runs and taken 51 wickets. He has a batting strike rate of almost 147 in the T20 format. Krunal has earned reputation with his all-round show in the Indian Premier League, where he represents the Mumbai Indians, along with his brother Hardik, who has been playing international cricket for some time now.

Hardik, who plays alongside Krunal for Mumbai in the IPL, was not picked for either of the two T20I series after he was taken out of the ground in a game against Pakistan in Asia Cup last month after suffering a serious lower back injury.

Can’t wait to play for India

Talking of Krunal, the cricketer did not hide his pleasure on being picked in the squads as he made a step closer towards fulfilling his dream of representing India. He posted a picture of himself batting in the blues and captioned it: “Proud to represent my country and can’t wait to wear the Blue. Thank you for all your wonderful messages.”

While captain Virat Kohli was rested for the three-game T20I series against the Windies and Rohit Sharma was picked to lead India, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni was dropped for both the series and was replaced by the young Rishabh Pant.
