‘It’s always you vs you’ - Virat Kohli determined to conquer the battle from within
Virat Kohli has not scored a century since November 2019.
The most followed cricketer on Instagram, Virat Kohli came up with a motivational post that suggested his only competition is himself and added a mirror picture too. The 33-year-old recently gave up India’s Test captaincy after the 1-2 loss to South Africa and is looking to get back in usual ‘run machine’ mode. He stepped down from T20I captaincy last year after the T20 World cup 2021 and subsequently was removed from ODI format as well with the selectors preferring one captain in Rohit Sharma for white-ball formats.
Kohli took over the Test captaincy in 2014 when India were at the seventh rank in ICC team rankings. When he stepped down, the team was number one in ICC rankings. He has now left a big void in the team as the decision took a lot of people by shock. Rohit Sharma is the likely contender to don the captaincy hat despite KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant being in the fray. Kohli still remains an integral part of India’s batting lineup and it will be interesting who replaces the former as captain.
Virat Kohli seems keen to regain his golden touch
Meanwhile, Kohli’s Instagram post spoke a lot of his grit and determination to get back his golden touch with the bat. “Its always you vs you.” read the caption of the inspring post. The former Indian captain has been going through a rough patch of form since 2019 and is stuck at 70 international centuries for a long time now. He will now have his eyes on the upcoming home series against West Indies and is expected to come out of his century drought soon.
Meanwhile, India have named a 18-member squad for the upcoming series against West Indies which included a lot of upcoming fast bowlers and youngsters as well. Ravi Bishnoi has earned his maiden call up to international scene while Deepak Hooda has been recalled t0 the side.
The opening ODI gets underway on February 6 and the Men in Blue would be determined to cross the line. Notably, this series will mark Kohli’s first assignment under skipper Rohit Sharma.
