It’s an emotional moment for me to leave Delhi: Unmukt Chand
Unmukt Chand will lead Uttarakhand in Ranji Trophy 20.19-20.
Unmukt Chand, the young Indian cricketer burst out into the domestic arena at the age of 16. He was known as one of the most happening talents in Indian cricket at that moment. Chand played his first match against Gujarat and scored 35 runs and got his first ever half-century in the next game itself. He was then appointed the captain of India U19 and under his leadership, the team won the World Cup in 2012.
Everything was going on track for the right-handed top-order batsman, but a sudden dip in his form made him struggle to make his way back into the Ranji team of his state. Last season, he was dropped from the team and he wasn’t picked up by Delhi for the Vijay Hazare trophy as well. He also played in IPL but his batting ability was put up in the question, after successive failures in the league.
But, now the flamboyant batman, is ready to play for a new team. This season Unmukt Chand will play for Uttarakhand and will lead them in the upcoming season. The 26-year old has been in and out of Delhi team in the last couple of years and this has forced him to change his Ranji team so that he can get regular game time in Ranji trophy.
“Last 2-3 years have not been good for me in Delhi. Yes, I have had lots of comebacks in the last 2-3 years….you know I was getting dropped time and again. So every match felt like a comeback match for me. It was a great experience playing for Delhi but Uttarakhand is another challenge.
I have a connection with Uttarakhand, my roots are in Uttaranchal. So it feels like home. It’s good I have been able to acclimatize here…really enjoying the environment. Hopefully, can do a better job with Uttarakhand.” Unmukt Chand was quoted as saying by Times Now.

I have enjoyed playing cricket in Delhi… all my age groups.” Chand added. Chand has played in 60 first-class matches and scored 3184 runs at an average of 34.23 with eight centuries and sixteen half-centuries registered under his name.
