'It’s been in the back of his mind for some time' - Dwayne Bravo on MS Dhoni grooming CSK’s next captain

MS Dhoni is hailed as one of the best captains to ever have led the Indian cricket team. The veteran has also done wonders for his IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as under his leadership, the team registered victory in three editions of the T20 Championship. Before stepping down as team India skipper, Dhoni had groomed the current skipper Virat Kohli for taking his legacy further. Now, the Ranchi Stalwart wants to do the same for CSK.

The West Indies superstar Dwayne Bravo has revealed that MS Dhoni already has a name in his mind regarding the person who can successfully lead the Yellow Army after him. Also, Dhoni has been thinking of this transition for quite some time now as he knows that someday he will have to step back and let someone else lead from front.

“I know it’s been in the back of his mind for some time, I mean all of us have to step aside at some point of time. It’s just the matter of when… when to step aside and hand it over to whether it’s Raina or someone younger,” Bravo told ABP News.

After being on sabbatical from the game for more than a year, MS Dhoni announced his retirement from all the three formats of international cricket on August 15. Speaking about the same, Bravo reckoned that retirement from international cricket will not affect the franchise as it will not change the way Dhoni has been leading the team. Instead, he will play more freely this time as he won’t have to worry about a billion of people.

“He doesn’t have to worry about a billion people now, it’s just CSK the franchise but I don’t think that’ll change the person he is, won’t he change how he leads the team, definitely he’ll be the same person,” the all-rounder added. CSK is considered as one of the most successful franchises in the history of the IPL.

Shedding light on the main reason behind the team’s success, Dwayne Bravo stated that all the players feel relaxed while playing their game as there is no pressure from the management or the captain. Also, the love that the fans bestow on the Yellow Army contributes to the team’s success according to him.

“We have a very talented squad, full of experience and also we have a management staff that is very relaxed and balanced and also the owners… All these things come together and play a part (in making CSK a successful franchise). We don’t have any outside pressure from the owners or the management. We don’t feel under pressure with MS (Dhoni) as captain.

“I think CSK have one of the most loyal fans whether we play in Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore you see a lot of yellow shirts in the stands. We enjoy each other’s success, so these are the main reasons behind the success of CSK,” the 36-year-old further stated.
