It’s raining 400s in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 at the moment: It’s been a high scoring world cup so far. Till now, in 26 matches 19 times teams have scored more than 300 runs and out of that 3 times score of 400 has also been achieved. South Africa after being defeated brutally by India is on fire, and they have now posted 400+ in two consecutive games.

Today, Kangaroos joined the party and they scored a mammoth total of 417 in their quota of 50 over’s against Afghanistan, and now Australia holds the record of the highest total in a world cup match, breaking India’s record of 413 which they made against Bermuda in World Cup 2007.

South Africa 408/5 against West Indies:

After facing defeat against mighty Indians, Proteas came all guns blazing in their next fixture. Hashim Amla and Fuf du Plessis built the innings for South Africa and made a perfect platform for the likes of AB de Villiers and Rossouw to come and score quickly. AB de Villiers was in his element right from the start of his innings and he started his innings just where he left in Johannesburg against West Indies two weeks before. de Villiers scored a quick fire 162 in 66 deliveries with 8 hits going over the ropes. Rossouw brilliantly supported his skipper by making a quick 61 of 39 odd balls.

South Africa 411/4 against Ireland:

Once South Africa got their form back against West Indies, they were unstoppable for the Ireland bowlers. Hashim Amla and Fuf du Plessis led the charge this time also and build a partnership of 247 of 217 deliveries. Amla being the dominant of the two brilliantly paced his innings before getting out on 159 after facing 128 balls. Du Plessis also scored century and scored 109 with a strike rate of 100. Miller and Rossouw finished off the innings in style as they scored 110 runs in last 51 balls.

Australia broke the record of highest ever score in a world cup match today, which was held by India for over 8 years. David Warner scored magnificent 178 before being dismissed by Shapoor Zadran. He along with Smith laid the foundation of Australian innings, together they scored 260 runs. Then, after Warner’s dismissal Maxwell was promoted in the batting order and he was sent in at number 4. Maxwell scored a brisk 88 in 39 deliveries with 7 shots going over the rope.

Clearly, till now the world cup 2015 has proved to be a run fest. Hopefully India will join the party soon and will try to better the record of Australia as they will play West Indies and Zimbabwe in the next couple of games.
