There’s been a massive buzz around Rishabh Pant. The 21-year-old stumper has had a rousing start to his international career. He has become India’s first-choice wicket-keeper in Test cricket while is still finding his feet in the limited-overs formats.
Like most young wicket-keepers today, Pant has looked up to former India captain MS Dhoni for inspiration. While the Delhi dasher is tipped to replace him in the shorter formats as well after the latter’s retirement, he has already had a couple of excellent IPL seasons playing for the Delhi Daredevils (now, Delhi Capitals). In a video promoting the IPL, Pant posted a video on Twitter paying tribute to the legend of MS Dhoni.
Pant said that he might not have been a wicket-keeper batsman if Dhoni wasn’t around but at the same time, he issued a friendly warning to his idol as he said that he’s coming to show his game in the IPL this time around. The 21-year-old wicket-keeper is seen in the new Delhi Capitals jersey in the video.
He posted the video and tweeted, “Mahi Bhai, Sab aap se seekha hai, toh aap ke saamne game toh dikhana banta hai! #VIVOIPL mein milengey – Kya kehte ho, @msdhoni @StarSportsIndia @IPL. [Mahi Bhai, I’ve learnt everything from you and it’s fair to show you my game. Let’s meet in the #VIVOIPL, what do you say?]”

Opportunity for Rishabh Pant as India look to finalize World Cup squad
Rishabh Pant has cemented his place in the Test team and has done very well. However, he hasn’t got a lot of opportunities in the shorter formats. He has played just three ODIs and 13 T20Is so far. While he has batted just twice in the 50-over format, the youngster has been a consistent member of the T20 side.
However, he will get an opportunity to impress the selectors once again as India gear up to face Australia in a two-match T20I series which will be followed by five ODIs. Pant is expected to feature in quite a few games as India look to finalize their World Cup squad.
