‘I’ve attitude towards liars, traitors & opportunists’ – Gautam Gambhir hits back at Afridi for questioning his character
Gambhir also showed both their numbers in the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup.
Gautam Gambhir and Shahid Afridi, two of the most enigmatic cricketers of their generations, have been at loggerheads for quite a while now. Mostly on Twitter, the duo engages in extreme war of words. Political turmoil has marred the relationship between India and Pakistan over the last few decades and the situation hasn’t shown any signs of improvement whatsoever.
Both don’t mince any words in opining on certain matters. Afridi has been seen, commenting on a number of issues between the two nations. Replying to him, Gambhir hasn’t forgotten to lash out at him. Afridi and Gambhir also got tangled into controversies, getting involved in altercations on the field of play. Recently, the former all-rounder yet against took a dig at the Indian batter.
In his memoir Gamechanger, Afridi had some stern words to write on the Delhi-born Gambhir. The Khyber Agency-born called Gambhir an individual, who lacked in character. Afridi said that the left-hander didn’t have records to show and had loads of attitude.
“(Gautam Gambhir) and his attitude problem. He, who has no personality. He, who is barely a character in the great scheme of cricket. He, who has no great records, just a lot of attitude. He, who behaves like he’s a cross between Don Bradman and James Bond,” Afridi wrote.
Gambhir blasts Afridi
Even this time around, Gambhir didn’t miss out on giving Afridi an absolute hiding. The words didn’t go down with Gautam by any stretch of the imagination. The southpaw put forth their numbers in the final of the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa.
In the final at the Wanderers in Johannesburg, Gambhir notched 75 runs even as Afridi got out to Irfan Pathan for a golden duck. He also didn’t mince any words in questioning Afridi’s credentials.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Someone who doesn’t remember his age how will he remember my records!OK @SAfridiOfficial let me remind u one: 2007 T20 WC final, Ind Vs Pak Gambhir 75 off 54 balls Vs Afridi 0 off 1 ball. Most imp: We won the Cup. And yes, I’ve attitude towards liars, traitors & opportunists.”
