The former South African cricketer Jacques Kallis entered the wedlock on Sunday with his longtime girlfriend Charlene Engels. The memorable moment of the couple’s life though was threatened to get delayed as the wildfire cut the swathe through the Overberg in Western Cape where the wedding was set to take place. The incident took place only two days before the marriage and the couple decided not to postpone the event.
Eventually, Kallis and Charlene got hitched to each other on Sunday even as the Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association was fighting with the wildfire in the Hermanus Area. Charlene Engels made the news official through her official Instagram handle on Tuesday and also thanked all the well-wishers who cared and also congratulated them for entering the new phase of their life.
Wedding details
Jacques Kallis and Charlene Engels got married to each other at an estate in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley near Hermanus, the area where the fire had contained on Friday. However, a day ahead of the wedding, then bride-to-be had shared that they have decided to go ahead with the marriage.
According to the South African website Times Live, over 300 stems of “ice white” hydrangeas from Spain and 200 phalaenopsis orchid plants from Singapore had been flown in to make the event special. On Tuesday, Charlene posted a message on Instagram for her friends and followers confirming the news of her wedding with the former cricketer.
“And it’s official…Mr & Mrs Kallis!!! We are beyond excited to start our new chapter in the book of this fiery relationship! It started with a fire…now we just need to keep the fire burning in our marriage! We are completely overwhelmed with all the phone calls & messages received – THANK YOU!!! Words cannot express our gratitude! We are still trying to get through them and will respond to each message. It was truly a magical day and we are forever grateful!” the part of the message read.
Meanwhile, Kallis will be soon in India for the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he is the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
