James Anderson bizarrely shreds Ravi Ashwin's photo in reaction to Mankad incident
England Test pace spearhead James Anderson has come up with an absolute shocking gesture.
Kings XI Punjab skipper Ravi Ashwin has invited the wrath of the cricketing fraternity after his controversial method of running-out Rajasthan Royals Jos Buttler during the IPL game on last Monday. The off-spinner had Mankaded the England star to send shock waves in the cricketing world. The Royals and Buttler were cruising in the pursuit of 185. Buttler was going great guns on 69 while the Royals were 108 for 1 in the 13th over when Ashwin decided to pull the trick out of his hat.
On the fifth delivery of that over, he had paused for a while in his delivery stride while watching Buttler’s movement. And as soon as Buttler left the crease with his eyes set on the striker’s end, Ashwin dislodged the bails in a flash. A furious Buttler was then seen arguing with Ashwin but had to soon leave the scene after the third umpire adjudged him out. Royals soon collapsed to lose the game by 14 runs. From 108 for 1 and later 148 for 2, they finished on 170 for 9.
Unsurprisingly, the controversial incident invited a lot of criticism. While there was one section that did feel that Ashwin was within his rights to dismiss the batsman, the majority slammed the India star for going against the spirit of the game. Several former and present cricketers have said that Ashwin should have avoided such a mode of dismissal. But amidst all this, England Test pace spearhead James Anderson has come up with an absolute shocking gesture.
In a recent video which is going viral, Anderson, who is England’s leading wicket-taker in Tests, was seen shredding Ashwin’s picture as a reaction to the Mankad controversy. While some have found it funny, others were angry with the action.
Here is the video:
Root’s take on Mankad:
Unlike Anderson, England skipper Joe Root has given a gentlemanly reply to the controversy. The star batsman said that since the dismissal was within the rules, Buttler should ‘take it on the chin although he made it clear that he would not like to be involved in such kind of an incident.
“It’s not something that I’d like to be involved in, I wasn’t too impressed personally,” Root said. “But it’s within the Laws of the game, as a lot of people have said, and one Jos has to take on the chin unfortunately.”
