England’s James Anderson and Co. tried to have a crack at the Australian openers after setting them a target of 170 on the Day 4 of the 1st Ashes Test match at the Gabba. In the 5th over of the innings, Cameron Bancroft smacked a boundary off the fourth ball of Anderson’s over and the next ball was hit back to the bowler. Anderson wasn’t much impressed and it was clearly showing.
He threw the ball at Bancroft, which went on to hit his body, very close to his groin. The debutant didn’t react a bit and just gave a cold stare at the bowler. The English pacer apologised straight away and got back to his bowling mark.
The frustration was evident from the fact that the visitors are very close to losing the 1st Ashes Test. Australia finished the day on 114/0, needing just 56 runs to win on the final day with 10 wickets intact. Bancroft brought up his maiden fifty (51*) and Warner has scored eight boundaries for his unbeaten 60. The match clearly looks to be in the hosts’ pocket after Joe Root’s men lost four wickets for just 10 runs to get bowled out for 190 in their 2nd innings.
The fall of England
It has been a neck-t0-neck contest with Australia losing seven wickets for 200 odd runs in their 1st innings before skipper Steve Smith bailed his team out of trouble with an impressive 141* not out. “He’s well and truly on track to do that,” Ponting said on ABC Radio. “If he keeps trending the way he is, then absolutely. Think about the greats and the (Sachin) Tendulkars and the (Jacques) Kallises and these guys that have scored 15,000 runs — they played 150-plus Tests to achieve what they achieved. He’s nearly halfway there in just over 50 Test matches. (But) it doesn’t get easier.” Ponting added.

Pom's would be wanting a game ban and heavy fine if it had been Starc or Cummin's who did it.
