England pacer James Anderson is the sixth bowler in the world to have scalped 500 wickets in Tests. He joined the elite list of fast bowlers and is only the third to have broken the barrier. The fast bowler who is the only bowler to have more than 400 wickets for England, reached the milestone in the third Test against Windies at Lord’s in 2017.
Mark Vermeulen was my first Test wicket
In an interaction with the media, after the end of the day’s play, England’s leading wicket-taker revealed some of the secrets of his cricketing career in which he also recalled his first wicket. “I can remember my first Test wicket. Mark Vermeulen at Lord’s in 2003. Nasser Hussain was the captain and I ended up getting five wickets which was a proud moment,” he said about his debut game.
The owner of the 501 Test wickets also claimed that Hashim Amla is the toughest batsman he has ever bowled at and also hailed him as world class player. “Hashim Amla, stands out, he is someone who is a world class player and I have not had a huge amount of success against him in the past,” he continued with a smile on his face. Anderson is known to set up the batsmen for dismissals with continuous outswingers and a sudden inswinging delivery to pin them in front or shatter his stumps.
It has also been his favourite mode of dismissal throughout his career. “An inswinger, LBW or bowled after a few outswingers is very pleasing.” Anderson also mentioned that he never thought he would come thus far and doubted as a youngster if he could survive in International cricket.
“Certainly when I was younger, doubted whether I was good enough to play international cricket. But I guess if you just try and battle to prove yourself you can do it,” the bowler who has dismissed Sachin Tendulkar and Michael Clarke 9 times concluded.
