English all-round cricketer Sam Curran made his Test debut against Pakistan earlier this year and he weaved his magic in the recently concluded five-match Test series against India. He turned out to be a handy batsman lower down the order as he racked up 272 runs in four matches at an impressive average of 38.85 to go with a couple of half-centuries at Edgbaston and Southampton respectively.
Moreover, Curran turned out to be a lethal prospect with the leather having finished the series with 11 wickets. The Northampton-born cricketer was later crowned as the Three Lions’ Player of the Series owing to his stupendous all-round display on the cricket pitch. Recently, fast-bowler James Anderson also heaped praises on the 20-year-old Young Turk.
He’s extremely skillful with the ball
“I think we’ve found a gem there. He’s a diamond of a player who can score runs in crucial situations and will take the ball in any situation too,” Anderson was quoted as saying in Surrey’s official website.
“He gives that left arm option as well and he’s extremely skillful with the ball and he loves the battle that Test cricket brings. We’ve made real strides in that respect in terms of the players that we’ve added to the squad that was already very talented,” the 36-year-old added.
Anderson also had a memorable series as he finished as the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets at an average of 18.12. His best figures of 5/20 came during India’s first innings of the second Test at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground- The Home of Cricket- in London.
Prior to the last match at Kennington Oval in London, he was on the verge of becoming the fast-bowler with the most number of wickets in Tests, surpassing Australian great Glenn McGrath. The Lancashire-born pacer picked up Mohammed Shami’s wicket to rack up his 364th scalp and surpass the retired speedster.
