James Faulkner inks a three-year deal with Hobart Hurricanes
Recently, he was working with ESPN Cricinfo as a cricket analyst in the ongoing season of the IPL.
James Faulkner has signed a three-year deal with Hobart Hurricanes and will feature for them in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (BBL). He will be playing for his home team for the first time after plying his trade for Melbourne Stars in the first 7 seasons. Recently, he was working with ESPN Cricinfo as a cricket analyst in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and now will be excited to hit the straps for the Hurricanes who had made it to the finals in the previous BBL season.
It is most likely that the 28-year-old might straightaway walk into the playing XI of Hobart given that the team lost their preferred all-rounder in Dan Christian who signed a deal with Melbourne Renegades recently. Faulkner is a like for like replacement to him and will be looking to resurrect his career now. He played 47 matches for Stars and scalped 45 wickets while scoring runs at an average of 26.48 which is a decent record for an all-rounder.
Favourite son of Tasmania
James Faulkner is known to be one of the favourite sons of Tasmania as he has won Ricky Ponting medal as many as three times which is given to State’s best domestic cricketer. He was also the Man of the Match in the title clash for Tasmania in 2012/13 Sheffield Shield season. His international career was also at its peak a few years ago after making his debut at 23 but then has tailed off considerably.
In 69 ODIs, he has scored runs at a decent average of 34.40 and has picked 96 wickets which is an exceptional record. As far as T20 Internationals are concerned, Faulkner’s record goes up a notch as he has scalped 36 wickets in 24 games at a strike rate of 14.3 and also has a five-wicket haul to his name. He still has age on his side and can make a comeback to the national side by performing well in the upcoming BBL season.
