Star New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham has decided to leave his domestic team Wellington Firebirds. He is also not part of a New Zealand cricket team after being left out of the central contract list for the 2022-23 season. Neesham is currently contracted with Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals and English T20 Blast team Northamptonshire.
The 31-year-old all-rounder joined Wellington in 2018-19 and enjoyed a big success by winning four domestic trophies with them. Wellington won the Ford Trophy 2018-19 with Nessham scoring 503 runs in 12 matches with an average of 62.87 and also took 13 wickets. Then next year they won both Plunket Shield and Super Smash trophies. Wellington won the Super Smash in the 2020-21 season as well and were knocked out from the Eliminator round last season.
I’m so proud to have been part of this team: James Neesham
Neesham got a big boost to his international cricket for his consistently good performances with Wellington. He was a part of the 2019 ODI World Cup and 2021 T20 World Cup, where New Zealand reached the finals. The right-arm pacer has thanked Wellington and wished them to be more successful in the coming years.
