Jason Holder replaces Dwayne Bravo as West Indies ODI skipper: The news coming from the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is that the selectors have decided to appoint a new ODI skipper for the team. Tall fast bowler Jason Holder replaces Dwayne Bravo as the West Indies ODI skipper.
Selection panel headed by Clive Lloyd decided to give young Holder a go ahead of the five match ODI series against South Africa starting from the 16th of January 2015.

This decision was taken after the recommendations from the Clive Lloyd panel was approved by the Board of Directors. Holder whose ODI career started early last year has featured in 21 ODIs for the West Indies scalped 29 wickets.

In the WICB Media release the chief selector Clive Lloyd said,
“Jason is one of the good, young players who we believe will form part of the long-term future of West Indies Cricket, “We expect him to be around for a very long time. He is a young man with a very bright future. We have invested in him. He was part of the High Performance Centre and he also played for the West Indies Under-19 Team and the West Indies A Team.

The WICB and the selectors see leadership skills in the tall West Indian pacer and the fact that he is young and has a lot of cricket ahead of him prompted them to pull this decision off.

“He has played ODIs for the West Indies before and has done well. We know he will continue to grow and demonstrate leadership. He has a very good cricketing brain and has the makings of a very good leader.
This is time in West Indies cricket that we take the call, we have a few experienced guys around as well as a lot of youngsters are coming in. The ones who have been playing for us can help the new captain and the new players come in and settle down.

“The selectors decided that now is the time to make the transition and Jason will have people around him to help and guide him. Some might say it’s close to the time of next year’s ICC Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand but we know that we have a good one-day team which can do very well.”

Jason Holder the newly appointed captain said he had looked forward to leading the West Indies for quite a long time now and is very happy to take the role and also that Bravo’s boots are quite big to fill.
“I’m very happy to be appointed in this post,” he said. “It’s something I’ve always been looking forward to from [the time I was] a youngster. Obviously being able to take over the mantle of Dwayne Bravo is big boots to fill. [I’m] just trying to move the team forward.”

Big names like Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Darren Sammy have been excluded from the squad and the younger lot is all set to replace them.
