Frustration forces even the best of us to make inexplicable mistakes. The latest addition to that list was Jason Roy, when he had to miss a T20 Blast match for an inadvertent self-inflicted injury. The English batsman recently issued an apology to his team Surrey and fans for not having been able to play a crucial match for them following the injury.

The 28-year-old was reportedly extremely frustrated with himself following his dismissal against Hampshire. Back in the dressing room, Roy made the mistake of flinging his bat onto the ground, which then ricocheted and hit his face, injuring him in the process. This ruled him out Surrey‘s match against Glamorgan.

Roy apologizes to teammates and fans

Owning up to his mistake and apologizing profusely for it, Roy said, “I’m extremely embarrassed and apologetic to my team-mates and fans for this moment of stupidity. Following my dismissal on Wednesday evening, I threw my bat into the ground purely out of self-frustration. It bounced, hit me, and as a result, I sustained the injury.”

As reported by LatestLY, Roy also assured his fans and critics of his dedication towards the sport and added, “I’ve never been so motivated and so positive about my game, and I assure you I will learn from my mistake as I am my own biggest critic.” The incident had taken place when Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman had managed to scalp Roy’s wicket in the Surrey vs Hampshire match in the T20 Blast. That the opener had been dismissed for a duck had only added to his frustration.

In Roy’s absence, Rory Burns (14) opened the innings with Aaron Finch (44) for Surrey against Glamorgan. Chasing 184 runs, Surrey put up 60 runs in five overs without losing a wicket, before rain interrupted the game. With the use of Duckworth/Lewis Stern method, Surrey was adjudged victorious. However, they failed to make it to the quarterfinals of the tournament, in spite of the win.
