Team India’s first and only warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI ended in a tie. While the Indian batsmen looked pretty comfortable facing the Australian seamers, it was the bowling that looked a bit rusty. The Indian bowlers were made to toil hard on the Day 3 of the practice match as the CA XI openers managed 114 runs for the first wicket. It was also because the Indian team kept two of their frontline pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar out of the attack.
After a worrisome start the Indian bowlers got back into the game piercing through their middle order, however, once again failed to clean up the tail. CA XI capitalized on that and went on to post a mammoth 544 on the board from a precarious position of 356/6. The visiting team’s lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah who adds an X-factor to the attack didn’t bowl in the first innings and was used for just 1.1 overs in the second.
On the 7th ball that he bowled Bumrah cleaned up CA XI’s Jackson Coleman (36 off 65) with a spectacular yorker while not conceding a single run. Coleman and his partner Luke Robins were batting on individual scores of 36 and 38 respectively. More than that, it was the number of balls they faced that would’ve frustrated the Indians. The last two batsmen faced 84 and 82 balls testing the patience of Indian captain Virat Kohli.
He eventually had to call his trump card, the yorker specialist in the team and hand him the job of wrapping the innings. It took Bumrah just an over to get into his best. The first ball of his next over was spot on the money, coming over the wickets he pitched it right in the death hole where Coleman a tailender had no answers. It was aimed at the roots of his stumps and without bat making any contact zoomed into his off-stump and there he was stunned. Bumrah celebrated his success and the conclusion of the CXI innings in style.
