Jasprit Bumrah comes out in Umesh Yadav's support after the latter failed to defend 14 runs

Umesh Yadav was at the receiving end on Sunday after he failed to defend 14 runs in the last over against Australia. The win meant Australia took a decisive lead in the two-match T20I series. The game was nicely set up for India to win after Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fantastic penultimate over in which he picked two wickets and conceded only a couple of runs.

Yadav had to bowl at the tailenders of the opposition in Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson. But the pacer missed his mark a couple of times and some smart running from the two batsmen led to the visiting team stealing a victory after almost botching up a low chase. Yadav has been severely criticised for his poor bowling in the final over only to fins support from his teammate Bumrah.

Bumrah who returned with the figures of 3/16 in the game defended Yadav claiming that the plans in the death overs don’t always work.

Nothing to be worried

“You try your best, and you’re clear in your execution. Some days it works, some days it doesn’t. Nothing to be worried. We wanted to close the game in our favour but it’s okay,” the pacer said in the post-match conference. Jasprit Bumrah instead, was chuffed to bits with the fact that they managed to pull the game back sensationally despite posting a below-par total.

Virat Kohli also felt the same in the post-match presentation ceremony as he said, “We almost pulled off this game. But on this wicket, around 140-145 would have been a very good score. There was low bounce and it was difficult to hit big shots. It’s always difficult to chase on these kind of wickets.”

The second and final match of the series between the two teams will be played on Wednesday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru where the Men in Blue will look to level the series.
