Jasprit Bumrah’s grandfather lives a life of hardship while the cricketer climbs up the ladder of fame
The 84-year-old, though, is proud of his grandson and watches him play on the television.
In the last one year or so, Jasprit Bumrah has proved to be one of the most dependable death overs bowlers in the world. Boasting an unusual bowling action and accuracy, Bumrah is feared for his toe-crushing yorkers and his subtle variations. He shot to the limelight after his impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Mumbai Indians. Currently, he is the number two bowler in the world in the T20 format.
While the young bowler has scaled new heights in world cricket and has climbed up the ladder of fame, one of his family members has been living a life of extreme hardship and difficulties. Santokh Singh Bumrah, Jasprit’s grandfather, currently dwells in a rented place and drives a tempo to make ends meet.
Santokh drives a tempo to make ends meet
According to several media reports, Santokh, who lives in Uddham Singh Nagar of Uttarakhand, has been driving a tempo ever since he moved from Ahmedabad.
However, it was not always like this for Santokh. In fact, he had a big flourishing business and owned as a many as three factories. His son, Jasveer Singh Bumrah, who is Jasprit’s father, helped him run the business.
Following Jasveer’s death in 2001, the business suffered a great deal. Santokh was shattered at the loss and eventually, lost his business. Loan sharks were sitting on him, whom he had to repay by selling off his factories. He then moved to Uddham Singh Nagar in 2006.
Looking for a fresh start, he bought four new tempos and decided to start a new business. However, he suffered heavy losses in the new business and had to sell three of the tempos. Now, he rides the solitary tempo to earn a living.
The 84-year-old, though, is proud of his grandson and watches him play on the television.
